Alex Royle, Web3 Advisor

Alex has been in the digital assets space since 2018, working through early regulatory considerations until leaving the FCA at the beginning of 2020. He spent five years in markets structure supervision and policy at the FCA - including two years as the National Expert seconded to ESMA's Markets Team, managing the pan-European implementation of MiFID II and working through Brexit policy.

Alex managed the regulatory approval process and oversaw regulatory compliance and government affairs of the UK's first cryptoasset registered and FCA authorised trading venue, custodian, and broker. He has provided regulatory guidance to the Gibraltarian Government and Regulator to deliver a legislative package, paving the way for digitally native post-trade infrastructures to facilitate multilateral trading in genuine on-chain securities.

Alex is currently Policy Director of the UK Cryptoasset Business Council, which NorthPoint Strategy oversees as secretariat

Alex holds an M.Sc in Financial Regulation from Henley Business School where he focussed on unintended outcomes arising from conflated market microstructure policy decisions. He holds an International Diploma in Financial Crime Prevention from the Intrnational Compliance Association (ICA) and an MSCI from the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).
